Case Study: Scale House Odor Control

A municipal solid waste facility was receiving odor complaints from the neighborhood as well as having their people working in an unpleasant environment.

A simple water-based aerosol odor control spray system was initially installed, which was creating two problems for the facility. First, pumping, filtering, and delivering the water: second, the over spray on the cars and the scale house.

Based on site visits at other solid waste facilities that use waterless odor control, the facility elected to convert to the waterless system.

A 600 foot air-driven, waterless system was installed in one day with a four-man crew. The air distribution system included a four inch plastic supply line placed on the ground and eight foot high, one inch diameter air distribution lances twenty feet apart.

The system uses one 5 gallon pail of odor neutralizing product per week with the system running 16 hours a day.

The facility was very pleased with the odor control and eliminating everything associated with the old water system.
